Geneva Global was founded in 1999 by two billionaire investment managers seeking professional philanthropic services similar to those available for traditional investment banking. In 2008, amidst the financial crisis and recession, the owners decided to exit the business. Doug Balfour, the current CEO, bought out the owners and with a small group of staff started a journey to transform a subsidized foundation-like giving vehicle into a profitable business. The firm’s purpose remained to provide Performance Philanthropy: donor-centered giving that is impactful, evidence-based, effective and cost-efficient.

Geneva Global is an architect of social change, leveraging expertise and proven strategies and tools to help clients make the greatest impact; innovation and creativity is fused with dedication to results. A consulting firm with a full suite of services to enable impactful philanthropy, Geneva Global offers strategy and advising, program design, partnership development, communications and messaging, monitoring and evaluation, on-the-ground program management, and resource mobilization, among other services. Clients range from high-net-worth individuals and families to foundations, corporations, nonprofits, advisors, and governments. Through this work, Geneva Global has touched the lives of over 100 million people through 1,800 projects in over 100 countries, influencing over $1billion in giving. This work has covered the sectors of Health, Education, Economic Empowerment, Human Liberty/Anti-Trafficking, Emergencies and Disasters and Environmental Sustainability.

Geneva Global also helps create synergy for collaborative efforts, stewarding and cultivating donors for pooled funds or initiatives on behalf of nonprofits, foundations or single initiatives. Geneva Global has a team of approximately 50 professional staff, most of whom work at the headquarters in Paoli, PA, less than an hour from Philadelphia. Affordable housing, easy access to the city, and some of the best public schools in the East contribute to a great quality of life. The company purchased and remodeled its own building in 2015 and created a unique, people centered environment custom-designed for collaboration and client service. The staff culture and esprit de corps at Geneva Global would be the envy of any company. The remaining staff are on the ground in 10 countries.


We seek candidates with 15 or more years of progressively responsible leadership experience, ideally in a variety of settings such as philanthropy, nonprofit, business, and consulting. Management experience in a professional services setting is desirable, as is a successful track record in client relations and business development. A Master’s degree or equivalent experience is required.
